History

Bay Park was originally platted as a subdivision within Tuscola County, Michigan on June 5, 1885.

The early residents constructed cottages or ordered them via catalogues from nearby Bay City, Michigan lumber companies. In the winter months, catalogue ordered prefabricated cottages were delivered via horse over the ice of the Saginaw Bay from Bay City.

Original residents and guests of Bay Park could enjoy the neighborhood’s general store, pick up their mail from its post office, or invite guests to stay at Bay Park’s hotel. The general store, post office, and hotel all conveniently located in one building – right across the street from the individual horse stalls available to each Bay Park property.

The Bay Park Marina was originally sheltered from the Saginaw Bay by an island accessible via a wooden walking bridge. An effort later to drudge out the marina created a land bridge between the island and Bay Park properties.
